Johannes Merz is a senior anthropology consultant for SIL International. He holds a PhD in cultural anthropology from Leiden University, the Netherlands.

Since 2002 he has been based in Benin, West Africa, where he did most of his fieldwork. He has specialised in media anthropology, studying how people understand different Christian films, both in terms of media technology and
the films message.

 

Johannes also lectures at Moorlands College, Christchurch,
UK, and at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria, Jos, Nigeria.
