If your project has voice actors in or visiting the Dallas, Texas, area, the IMS Studio is now open and available to lease for your audio recording needs. Located on the campus of the SIL International Linguistics Center (ILC), the studio features professional-level equipment and soundproofing. Already, the new studio has helped facilitate the production of several projects.SIL Global Executive Director Michel Kenmogne sits in the new IMS Studio to record a piece for an upcoming event.In late January and early February, a team from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians visited the ILC and spent two weeks recording the book of Hebrews in their language. Previous recordings conducted with the help of IMS in the U.S. state of Mississippi have generated great excitement among the community.

"Revitalization of the Choctaw Language through God’s Word is the mission for CBTC, and utilizing the audio recordings from IMS has been impacting the young speakers of the Choctaw Language. Several young speakers ask to use the recordings to hear the language while following along with the words that are translated into Choctaw. This allows our people to hear how the language should sound and how to enunciate the words. This brings joy to the ones that want to learn but in their own time and speed. With this we have more people asking us to read to them in Choctaw from surrounding churches," said community member Daniel Tubby. The voice actor for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians scrolls through the text of Hebrews before beginning another session of recording. IMS technician Nathanael Gregoriev sits in the control room, editing the recording between takes. Clients have the option to lease the studio with the assistance of an IMS technician or without. Equipped with the capacity for a variety of layouts, the studio works well for single-voice audio narration and multi-voice formats, such as a two-person podcast. The Spoken English Bible project has been using the studio since July. Much of the Scripture narration and podcast material found in their Akuo app was recorded in studio. A member of the Spoken English Bible team stands behind the mic while an IMS technician sits behind the sound board.If you or your team desires to lease the studio or have questions about the studio, please contact IMS at ims_contact@sil.org.Ricky DiMartino is the IMS Communications Coordinator.
